As Writer/Research Associate, Stephanie Tillman monitors preclinical and clinical microbicide pipelines and maintains the Microbicide Research and Development Database (MRDD), organizes the activities of the Quick Working Group (QWG) and serves as its Rapporteur, writes briefs and reports, compiles the News Digest and News Alerts, and is a contributing writer for Alliance publications. Ms. Tillman holds a BA in Global Health and a minor in Medical Anthropology from the University of Michigan. Her academic background focused on sexual identity and empowerment, birth rights in lesbian and gay communities, and male and female reproductive health. During her studies, Ms. Tillman worked as a Sexual Health Educator and helped to pilot Michigan's award winning peer health advocacy student group, PULSE. Ms. Tillman also worked extensively abroad: in Malawi, providing counseling on behavior modification and sexual health to rural women, youth, and commercial sex workers; in Honduras, researching the Safe Motherhood Initiative's impact on maternal health while providing doula support in a birth center; and in Hungary, analyzing the transitioning healthcare system's provision of sexual health education and access to contraception. Ms. Tillman is especially interested in the use of microbicides in PMTCT, rectal microbicide research and development, and clinical trial participant feedback.
