Description

Microbicide Watch is a monitoring report that offers information, analysis, and recommendations to serve as a reference for policy makers and advocates. Microbicide Watch takes stock of the microbicide field and looks to the future to understand what changes are needed to promote a more vigorous and strategic effort. It identifies six priorities for action:

• Diversify the landscape
• Ensure forward momentum in clinical research
• Improve the regulatory terrain
• Allocate sufficient funding to realize scientific objectives
• Steer the resources well
• Expand a clearly defined research program in the United States and build upon new momentum in Europe

The inaugural issue of Microbicide Watch, released in 2006, is intended to be the first of a regularly published review of the microbicide effort. It complements the Microbicide Development Strategy, which outlines the fundamental scientific gaps, obstacles, and priority actions in microbicide research and development.
