Microbicide Donors Committee

The Alliance serves as the Secretariat for the Microbicide Donors Committee (MDC), which was initially convened in 2004 and included the primary funders of large microbicide trials. Its purpose was:

• to launch a process of information-sharing and dialogue among the donors supporting microbicide research, development, and advocacy;
• to consider how collaboration, coordination, and harmonization might be enhanced in key areas; and
• to explore ways in which the work of the microbicide field might proceed more efficiently and strategically.

The MDC has met several times since its inception, with the most recent meeting taking place in January 2007. The MDC provided the impetus for several of the Alliance's major efforts, including the Microbicide Development Strategy and Mapping the Microbicide Effort.
